Peter Laurance A.O.
Founder & Chairman

Peter established the first of the Pivot Group of Companies in Perth, Western Australia in 1972, which grew into a publicly-listed corporation in 1984 with offices, property assets and resource projects in most States of Australia. It has been wholly owned by the Laurance family since it privatised the Group in 1990.

The success of the Group has been partly attributed to Peter’s ability to conceptualise and finance new projects then negotiate with Federal, State and local governments for the necessary approvals to bring them to fruition. Peter enjoys creating teams of positive, competent people to design, develop and manage diverse property and resource projects and businesses. As a major shareholder and Executive Chairman of Sea World and Warner Bros. Movie World, he led a team of 2,000 loyal staff who achieved profitable results and many National awards as the best tourist attractions in Australia.

In 1990, Peter was appointed by the State Government as Chairman of the Queensland Tourist & Travel Corporation where he directed a team of 300 people in 17 offices worldwide to promote the State as Australia’s premier tourist destination. Visitor figures proved that this goal was achieved during his tenure.

In 1992, Peter was invested as an Officer in the Order of Australia (A.O.) in recognition of his services to tourism, and his lifelong commitment to helping disadvantaged young people.
